Walking sister heads to Brazil for world stage

South African race walker Zelda Botha is set to represent the country at the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships in Brazil next month.
The 34 year old booked her spot after winning the women’s 21 point one kilometre event at the Athletics South Africa Race Walking Trials in Pretoria, clocking one hour 52 minutes and 55 seconds.
Botha says competing at home was important to prove she belongs in the national team, despite already qualifying last year.
Her journey began as a schoolgirl challenge from her sister and has included a national title, double hip surgery and a return to the sport after becoming a mother.
She now heads to Brazil in the green and gold determined to make her family and country proud.
