The 10th Africa Unity for Renaissance Conference has wrapped up in Johannesburg after a six year break.
Hosted by the Human Sciences Research Council, the gathering brought together academics, policymakers and industry leaders to reimagine Africa’s development through a digital lens.
Discussions focused on digital transformation, artificial intelligence and innovation as drivers of economic growth, improved governance and inclusive development across the continent.
Organisers say the platform strengthens collaboration and positions research and technology at the centre of Africa’s long term progress.

Gregg Mitchley is set to walk from Johannesburg to Durban to raise funds for two young South African children, Sadie and Jesse Krause, who are battling the rare immune condition DOCK8.
The siblings have travelled to the United States for life-saving treatment, including a bone marrow transplant, but the costs remain overwhelming.
Mitchley, founder of the Gregg Mitchley Foundation, is taking on this physical challenge to inspire community support and bring attention to the children’s journey.

South African race walker Zelda Botha is set to represent the country at the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships in Brazil next month.
The 34 year old booked her spot after winning the women’s 21 point one kilometre event at the Athletics South Africa Race Walking Trials in Pretoria, clocking one hour 52 minutes and 55 seconds.
Botha says competing at home was important to prove she belongs in the national team, despite already qualifying last year.
Her journey began as a schoolgirl challenge from her sister and has included a national title, double hip surgery and a return to the sport after becoming a mother.
She now heads to Brazil in the green and gold determined to make her family and country proud.
