Medical debt wiped out for thousands of US residents
Story 3
Thousands of residents in Connecticut in the United States have had their medical debt cleared through a programme led by non profit organisation Undue Medical Debt. About 6.5 million US dollars in unpaid hospital bills has been erased for nearly 97 thousand people as part of a state supported initiative funded through leftover relief money and donations.
The programme targets low income households and those with high medical debt compared to their earnings, helping to reduce financial pressure while ensuring hospitals still receive payment through discounted debt purchases.
Rep Kevin Brown, a state representative from Vernon in Connecticut, says he will continue to support the programme.
