New digital learning centre brings coding and robotics to Hillbrow learners

A new Digital Learning Centre has opened at the BG Alexander Estate in Hillbrow, giving Grade 7 to 9 learners access to coding, robotics and digital skills training.
The facility was launched through a partnership between Netstar and MES and includes programmes focused on technology, problem solving and teamwork.
Schools in the surrounding area will also be able to use the centre, expanding access to skills that can support future careers in technology and innovation.

The South African Revenue Service has launched its Foreign Vehicle Declaration System at a border post between South Africa and Botswana in the North West, with the measure taking effect immediately.

Kind strangers help reunite elderly man with dementia with his family

An elderly man living with dementia has been safely reunited with his family in Amanzimtoti after a series of compassionate actions from strangers and caregivers.
The man was found knocking on a door in Doonside, where concerned residents contacted a local elderly support organisation for assistance.
Caregivers then engaged with him gently and used clues from his memory to try trace his home, eventually travelling through nearby areas with him until his family was located.
He was later safely returned home after being cared for by staff who ensured he was calm, supported and protected throughout the search.
The reunion brought relief to his family, who had been searching for him.

Pret a Manger opens hostel to support people out of homelessness

UK sandwich chain Pret A Manger has launched a hostel in London for people who have experienced homelessness, in what it says is a first for the UK food industry.
The project is run through the Pret Foundation in partnership with West London Mission and will provide accommodation alongside skills training and job opportunities in Pret stores.
The initiative is aimed at helping residents move from temporary shelter into stable housing, while supporting them with employment pathways and independent living skills.
The programme will initially support a small number of residents, with plans to expand over time as part of wider efforts to reduce homelessness in the city.
