Gauteng MEC re-tables 2025/26 budget

Gauteng Finance MEC, Lebogang Maile, has re-tabled the provincial budget for 2025 with revenue increasing from R171.5 billion to R172.3 billion.
Maile says the additional amount will help accommodate some of the priorities in the Gauteng Province including improving service delivery and preparations to host the G20 summit when world leaders of the formation gather in Johannesburg in November.
The MEC revised the 2025/26 provincial budget in accordance with legal prescripts after Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana tabled the third iteration of the national budget in May.

Cape Times launches R100 000 Youth Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition

The Cape Times is launching the Youth Month Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition as part of this year’s Cape Town International Convention Centre Youth Expo.
The competition aims to empower young entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 35 by providing them with the opportunity to win a R100 000 media package to promote their business and gain national visibility.
The top 10 finalists will be selected to pitch live at the Cape Times Youth Month Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition, taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from the 25th of June.
The competition is part of the publication's initiative focusing on youth empowerment and economic inclusion.

United Airlines expands Africa network with Dakar-Washington route

United Airlines has officially launched a year-round service between Dakar, Senegal, and Washington DC, marking the airline’s first direct route connecting Senegal and the United States.
The service operates three times a week, making United the sole carrier offering direct flights between the two capitals.
The addition of the route expands United’s African network to six destinations, which also include Accra, Lagos, Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Marrakesh.
The service forms part of United’s largest international expansion, adding new destinations and routes across the Atlantic for travellers this season.
