The Olivedale Tennis Club in Randburg has launched a youth programme aimed at introducing young children to the sport.

The Friday Youth Hour provides children with a dedicated space to learn the game of tennis in a safe and welcoming environment, with all equipment supplied at no cost.

Club member Emlyn Stone, says the initiative is designed to give children their first official experience of the game and encourage greater participation in the sport from an early age.

A Reddam House Helderfontein learner has been selected to represent Gauteng across three age groups at the 2026 Ice Hockey Inter–Provincial Tournaments.

14 year old Phoenix Howie has been named in the U16, U18, and U20 first teams, placing him among a small group of players that will be competing beyond their age group.

Ice hockey remains a niche sport in South Africa, with limited clubs and a small player pool.
While outstanding players may compete above their age group, selection to three provincial first teams is a testament to exceptional ability and performance.

The National Arts Festival returned to Makhanda in the Eastern Cape, bringing together renowned authors, artists and crafters from across the country.

The Department of Sports, Recreation and Arts and Culture invested over R13 million into the event, which gave writers, crafters and artists an opportunity to showcase their talents to local and international audiences.

The 52nd edition of the Festival featured a packed hybrid program spanning theater, dance, music, visual arts, and film.

The initiative aims to inspire young people to embrace literature and the creative arts as pathways to shaping the future.
