The Olivedale Tennis Club in Randburg has launched a youth programme aimed at introducing young children to the sport.

The Friday Youth Hour provides children with a dedicated space to learn the game of tennis in a safe and welcoming environment, with all equipment supplied at no cost.

Club member Emlyn Stone, says the initiative is designed to give children their first official experience of the game and encourage greater participation in the sport from an early age.

South Africa has been named the friendliest country in the world according to a global study by financial services provider Remitly.

The Rainbow Nation has secured the top spot, outshining famous hospitality hotspots such as Greece, Croatia and Mexico.

Researchers surveyed over 3 000 people across 27 countries, using the "agreeableness" section of the widely recognised Big Five Personality Test.
South Africa scored 34.63 out of 40.

Participants were assessed on qualities such as concern for others, the willingness to help and the ability to put people at ease.

The study noted that navigating social life in South Africa is made easier by the country's cultural diversity.

97% of South African respondents declared their own nation to be the friendliest in the world.

South African performing arts legend, Dr John Kani, participated in the Literature Festival at the 52nd National Arts Festival in Makhanda, where writers gathered to promote South African languages and strengthen the local publishing industry.

Discussions centred on preserving indigenous languages and supporting authors in publishing their work.

The festival held masterclasses that aimed to equipp emerging authors with practical and financial skills to help sustain their writing careers.
