Job Boost Ahead As Joburg's City Power Rolls Out EV Charging Stations
Story 1
City Power says the rolling out of electric vehicle charging stations across Johannesburg will create new jobs and align the metro with global trends including the European Union’s looming ban on fossil fuel vehicle imports.
The power utility will also introduce electric vans and trucks for maintenance operations, reducing fuel costs and carbon emissions.
Charging stations will first be installed at depots, then expanded to public areas and townships to encourage private EV adoption.
The project also includes solar microgrids in informal settlements and clean energy upgrades at clinics, schools, and hospitals.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the initiative supports the city's goal to become a leader in the green economy.
