Residents invited to submit innovative ideas for Johannesburg Smart City Initiative

The City of Johannesburg held a Smart City Innovation Challenge in the hopes of elevating the quality of life in the city.

The Smart City Innovation Challenge is an initiative led by the City of Johannesburg’s Smart City Office. In partnership with Wits University, and is devised to harness the creative and technological talents of residents, municipal employees and entrepreneurs to address Johannesburg’s most pressing urban challenges.

Since its inception in 2020, the programme has grown into a platform that stimulates innovation and collaboration, encouraged across multiple sectors, from government, academia, startups, and local communities.

R332 million disbursed for undergraduates

The Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane says R332 million has been disbursed for undergraduates from 2023 through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme.

The Minister hosted a Budget Vote Breakfast at Northlink TVET College in Cape Town earlier this week.
Nkabane also highlighted the importance of government to invest in academia.

Dozens of unemployed youth from disadvantaged backgrounds are being trained in international hospitality and placed into life-changing work opportunities on luxury cruise ships, through a visionary partnership between Anglo American, Summit and Silversea.

The programme combines hospitality training, personal development, and international placement to provide young people with the tools, mindset, and opportunity to succeed beyond South African borders.
