TUT Lecturer Wins Taiwan Fellowship

Dr Reinette Gouws-Meyer, a Crop Sciences lecturer at Tshwane University of Technology, has been awarded the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fellowship for 2026 for excellence in agricultural higher education research.
She will spend six months in Taiwan starting in January, studying how agricultural courses in Taiwan and South Africa respond to climate change, sustainability, and new technology. The research will help improve TUT’s curriculum and encourage international collaboration.

The SPAR Proteas secured one of their strongest results in years, beating England’s Vitality Roses 2–1 in the SPAR Challenge series held in Johannesburg from 29 January to 1 February 2026. South Africa won the opening Test, lost the second, and sealed the series with a dominant 65–50 victory in the final match at Ellis Park Arena. Captain Khanyisa Chawane says the win gives the team valuable confidence ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Riders across South Africa took part in the first-ever Saddle Up fancy-dress ride on Sunday to mark World Cancer Day.
Hosted by Cancervive, the national campaign brought together solo riders, clubs, friends, and families in convoy to honour cancer survivors, warriors, and loved ones lost to the disease.
Participants dressed in bright pink, purple, and blue, using creative costumes to draw attention to cancer awareness.
The event aimed to celebrate life, build community, and encourage people to stay informed and proactive about cancer prevention.
