Johannesburg Mini Council brings smiles to care centre residents

Grade 7 members of the Johannesburg Mini Council spent the day with residents at Thembalami Care Centre and the Max Ordman Deaf Association, playing Bingo, performing songs and sharing tea, cake and gifts.
The visit gave residents and learners the chance to connect across generations, with Bingo winners receiving winter blankets and all residents receiving gifts.
The care centre says the visit brought plenty of smiles and created meaningful memories for everyone involved.

South African Learners Return Home with World Spelling Bee Honours

A team of six South African learners has returned home after finishing fourth at the inaugural World Spelling Bee Championships in Shanghai, China, making South Africa the highest ranked African nation at the competition.
The team built on its earlier success after winning the African Spelling Bee title, with 13 year old Mbulelo Tolom finishing sixth in the individual competition against older learners from around the world.
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has welcomed the team home, praising the learners for their outstanding achievement and for flying the South African flag high on the world stage.

New Pretoria Mural Celebrates Hope for South Africa's Rhinos

A giant new mural in Lynwood Glen, Pretoria, is inspiring people to support rhino conservation while celebrating the progress made to protect one of South Africa's most iconic animals.
Commissioned by WWF South Africa and painted by artist Christopher MacClements, the colourful artwork recognises successful conservation efforts that have helped black rhino populations grow and significantly reduced poaching in parts of the country.
The mural also celebrates the dedication of rangers, conservationists and local communities working to secure a brighter future for South Africa's rhinos.

Africa Rally Raises More Than R1.1 Million for Charity

The 2026 Africa Rally has raised more than R1.1 million for 22 charities after teams completed a 5,000 kilometre charity adventure from Hartbeespoort through Botswana, Zambia and Malawi before finishing in Tanzania or eSwatini.
Participants travelled in a variety of vehicles, taking on daily challenges and checkpoints while raising funds for wildlife conservation, education, healthcare and community projects. The rally also made history with every team reaching the finish line for the first time.
