Maine Community Unites Behind Young Girl with Autism
Teaser / Tailpiece story
A small coastal town in Ogunquit, Maine, has rallied behind a six year old girl with autism after her family's colourful tin rooster collection became the centre of a dispute with local officials.
The giant roosters help Pyper LaBlanc regulate her emotions and manage daily routines, but the family was told to remove them after they were found to breach local signage rules.
In response, neighbours, businesses, churches, schools and even the local library began displaying tin roosters to show their support for Pyper and autism acceptance.
The movement has since spread beyond Maine, with supporters across the United States and as far away as New Zealand joining the campaign.
