Gauteng Launches HPV Vaccination Campaign for Grade 5 Girls

The Gauteng Department of Health has launched its latest HPV vaccination campaign, offering free vaccines to eligible Grade 5 girls aged nine and older at participating primary schools across the province until October.
The programme aims to protect girls against the virus responsible for most cases of cervical cancer, with research showing South Africa's school based vaccination programme has reduced infections from the two highest risk HPV strains by 83 percent among young women.
Parents and guardians are being encouraged to return consent forms so more learners can benefit from the life saving vaccine.

The Mpumalanga government has opened the Lucky Dube Secondary School of Performing Arts in Ermelo, the province's first no fee public secondary school dedicated to the performing arts.
The school will provide specialised training in music, dance, drama and other creative fields, giving young people the skills to pursue careers in the creative industry.
Named after the late reggae icon Lucky Dube, the institution will also continue investing in world class facilities and industry partnerships to help learners develop their talents.

St Stithians Film Heads to International Festival

A group of young filmmakers from St Stithians College in Johannesburg is heading to New York after becoming the first South African school selected for one of the world's biggest film festivals for high school filmmakers.
Their student led comedy mockumentary, The Play or the Failure Thereof, will be screened at the All American High School Film Festival after being selected from more than 2,500 entries from over 40 countries.
The project was written, directed, filmed and edited by members of the school's Film Club, many of whom had never made a film before.

A young autistic pianist is inspiring audiences around the world after an act of kindness helped unlock his extraordinary talent.
Jude Kofie taught himself to play the piano without any formal lessons before piano tuner Bill Magnusson saw a news report about the gifted musician and bought him a grand piano using money from his late father's inheritance.
Magnusson also promised to tune the piano once a month for the rest of his life and has helped fund professional music lessons.
The pair have since formed a close family like bond as Jude continues to impress audiences with his remarkable musical ability.
