Service dog alerts veteran to life-threatening heart condition
Story 3
A service dog helped save the life of Hank Ford, a 54-year-old military veteran from Colorado in the United States.
Hank’s Labrador, Tommy, alerted him when something was wrong, prompting him to check his pulse, which was dangerously high at 171 beats per minute.
Doctors later diagnosed him with atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat that can lead to stroke or death if untreated.
Tommy was provided through a nonprofit supporting veterans with PTSD and has become a vital part of Hank’s daily life.
