Higher Education Department advances digital learning through Google collaboration

The Department of Higher Education and Training has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with
global technology company Google, aimed at advancing digital skills development and the integration of artificial intelligence in South Africa’s education sector.
The signing ceremony took place at Google’s Johannesburg offices in Bryanston on Monday, under the facilitation of Deputy Minister Mimmy Gondwe.
The department says the partnership will help support workforce development and expand access to training opportunities, including 5,000 Google Career Certificate scholarships in fields such as AI Essentials, Cybersecurity and Data Analytics.
The scholarships will target students, educators, and IT staff in selected public universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training and Community Education and Training colleges, with a particular focus on remote and township communities.

City of Johannesburg announces adjusted Easter operating hours

The City of Johannesburg has confirmed that its municipal offices and Customer Service Centres will have adjusted operating hours over the Easter holiday period.
The City is encouraging customers to make use of its online platforms, call centres and email services which will remain operational throughout the holiday period.
Customers are also encouraged to ensure their municipal accounts are paid on time to avoid service interruptions.
The City has also reminded residents of alternative payment options including retail outlets, banking platforms and the e-joburg portal.
