London Marathon explores two-day expansion
Teaser / Tailpiece story
The London Marathon could undergo a major format shift, with organisers exploring the possibility of extending the race to two days.

The move comes amid surging global interest, with a record 1.1 million applicants for this year’s event, marking a 36% increase from the previous year.

A split format would allow greater focus on elite competition, with men’s and women’s races staged on separate days, while significantly expanding participation for amateur runners.

Organisers say discussions are ongoing and no formal approval has been granted.
