Books Transform Early Learning Centres

Thousands of young children now have better access to books and reading spaces after 10 Early Childhood Development centres across South Africa were upgraded through the Mandela Month Literacy Legacy Initiative.
The project provided 1 500 books, educational toys, take-home reading packs and dedicated reading corners to support early literacy.
The initiative will continue beyond Mandela Month, with assessments planned to identify infrastructure improvements at the centres and create safer, better learning environments.

Maths Science Revision Expands For Learners

More Grade 10 and 11 learners will receive maths and science support as the Primestars eduCate revision programme expands in 2026.
The programme was launched at Cell C’s head office in Johannesburg and is supported by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
It provides revision support to help learners continue with Mathematics and Physical Sciences before reaching Matric.
The initiative aims to strengthen the number of learners entering science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.

Ruimsig Walk Raises Shoes For Children

A community fundraising walk and run in Ruimsig has raised support for children in need of school shoes.
The event, held earlier this month, brought together families, runners and organisations including My Walk Made with Soul, Love Cities and Run/Walk for Life.
Participants sponsored shoes, while the charity recycles hospital drip bags to produce waterproof school shoes for learners.
The initiative helps more children attend school with the footwear they need.

PSL Marks 30 Years Of Football

The Premier Soccer League marks 30 years of professional football as the 2026/27 season gets underway this weekend.
The PSL was established in the 1996/97 season and has run top-flight competitions featuring clubs from across South Africa.
The league also had the highest number of locally based players selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the Americas, a milestone PSL executive member Stan Matthews says reflects the league’s role in developing talent:
