President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially welcomed the FIFA World Cup Original Trophy to South Africa, marking a historic moment for the country’s football fraternity.

The arrival of the iconic trophy at the Union Buildings in Pretoria officially launched its three-day tour in South Africa.

The FIFA World Cup Original Trophy is traditionally presented to the winning team at the conclusion of the tournament before being returned to the FIFA Museum in Switzerland.

The trophy will be displayed at the State Theatre and the Nasrec Expo Centre today, before completing the final leg of the tour in Cape Town.

The Korean Cultural Centre, in collaboration with the South African Chefs Association, hosted the Korean Global Food Festival, bringing together chefs from across the country to explore East Asian culinary techniques.

The festival created a platform where Korean and broader East Asian methods were introduced, interpreted and woven into local culinary perspectives, exposing South Africa’s culinary industry to new approaches, philosophies and skills that chefs could adapt in their own kitchens.

Senior Media Officer at the Korean Cultural Centre, Jaeil Lee, said the festival aimed to go beyond presenting Korean cuisine as a static tradition, instead encouraging creativity, exchange and innovation.
