Final Unit at Kusile Goes Live, Boosting South Africa’s Power Supply
Story 2
Eskom has brought Unit 6 at Kusile Power Station into commercial operation, marking the completion of its supercritical coal-fired Build Programme.
This milestone finalises South Africa’s largest power station projects at Medupi and Kusile.
Unit 6 adds 800 megawatts to the grid, contributing to a combined capacity of 9,600 megawatts from both stations when fully operational.
Eskom says this will enhance baseload electricity supply and strengthen grid stability.
Kusile is also the first power station in Africa to use Wet Flue Gas Desulphurisation technology, reducing sulphur emissions and aligning with global air quality standards. The stations are expected to play a key role in South Africa’s energy supply for the next fifty years.

Scottish Ash Crowned Tree of the Year
Story 3
A towering 23 metre ash tree in Glasgow, believed to be over 175 years old, has been named the UK’s Tree of the Year.
The tree has survived disease, wartime bombing and urban development, standing as a symbol of resilience and hope.
Conservationists say its recognition shows how trees connect communities, protect nature and inspire pride in local heritage.
The win marks Scotland’s second consecutive UK title, and the ash will now go on to represent the country in next year’s European Tree of the Year contest.
