The City of Tshwane and Moreleta Park residents have teamed up to clean and restore the area around the Plastic View informal settlement.
Two large-scale clean-ups cleared piles of waste and rubble, improving hygiene and reducing pollution risks.
Led by the Pretoria East Community Caring Forum, residents built barriers to prevent further illegal dumping and praised the metro’s support in reclaiming the space.
Community leader Deirdré van Helsdingen said the initiative marks a positive step toward a cleaner, safer neighbourhood and called for continued collaboration to keep the area green and healthy.

Cape Town will award its highest civic honour, the Freedom of the City, to musical theatre icons David Kramer and the late Taliep Petersen.

Mexico has introduced new rules to protect threatened shark species in the Atlantic from being caught or kept as bycatch.
The regulations cover longline fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea and fully protect bigeye thresher, silky shark, oceanic whitetip, shortfin mako, and hammerhead sharks.
Incidentally caught sharks must be released with measures to boost survival, promoting responsible fishing practices.
Conservationists say the move, though long overdue, is an important step for the survival of some of the Atlantic’s most imperilled species.
