Bloemhof Crowned South Africa’s Town of the Year 2025
Story 2
Bloemhof, a small town on the Vaal River in the North West, has been named South Africa’s Town of the Year 2025.
The win in the annual Kwêla Dorp van die Jaar competition was decided by public vote, with Bloemhof outshining eight strong contenders, including Namibia’s Rehoboth and Western Cape’s Wilderness.
The town receives a R1 million cash prize from Lottoland for development, along with national exposure through KykNET.
Founded in 1864 during a diamond rush, Bloemhof thrives on maize and cattle farming while offering outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and hiking along the Vaal River.
Its authentic charm, community spirit, and tranquil riverside setting have helped secure its place on South Africa’s tourism map.
