Tembisa West Secondary School has been crowned champions of the 2025 Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition.
The competition empowers learners to use science, technology, engineering and mathematics to address pressing social and environmental challenges faced by their communities.
The school's groundbreaking energy efficiency AI system earned them first place for its potential to drive meaningful change in their school.
The achievement earned the learners R100,000 prize money which will go towards purchasing Stem equipment for their school.
In partnership with the State Information Technology Agency and the Department of Basic Education, Samsung hosted the awards ceremony at Indaba Hotel and Conference Centre in Johannesburg earlier this month.

ATNS Acting CEO Matome Moholola gave an update on progress in stabilising operations and rebuilding capacity, following criticism over outdated instrument flight procedures that disrupted airports like Kruger Mpumalanga International.
Moholola reported progress on this, with 240 of the 388 flight procedures now approved by the civil aviation authority:
