Kingsmead College hosts 14th Annual Book Fair

The Kingsmead College campus hosted the 14th annual Kingsmead Book Fair, at its campus in Melrose in Johannesburg.

The event gathered readers, writers and storytellers and featured more than 80 sessions across adult, young adult and children’s programmes, celebrating literature while encouraging conversation, creativity and critical thinking.

The Funds raised through ticket sales will help support the Kingsmead Trust, which provides bursaries for students at Kingsmead College Senior School.

Knysna Primary School learners earn national colours

Two 13-year-old learners at Knysna Primary School and members of the MACX Academy, have received national colours, following outstanding performances at provincial level in December last year.

The learners qualified for the national street dance competition ‘Move and Dance Connect’, where they secured top honours, earning the right to represent South Africa at the World Championships in Disney, in Florida.

The MACX Academy community development programme supports around 50 students from remote and central Knysna, providing subsidised dance training and resources.

The non-profit programme is dedicated to empowering youth through performing arts.

Artscape Theatre Centre celebrates 55 years of performing arts excellence

The Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town is marking 55 years since it first opened its doors, originally as the Nico Malan Theatre in 1971.

The official anniversary was marked on the 19th of May, celebrating the center's evolution into a performing arts space for all races, genders and abilities.

The venue is running special initiatives from the month of May through November, including free lunchtime concerts, reduced ticket prices, masterclasses and guided building tours.

Mexico City has unveiled a football themed mural spanning more than 200 square metres in celebration of Mexico’s football history and culture.

A team of six Mexican artists spent nearly 90 days painting the entire structure using traditional paintbrushes and acrylics.

The artwork which is painted on a street corner wall in Mexico City, is part of a broader urban mural initiative linked to the FIFA World Cup, with artists across the city creating football-related public art ahead of the tournament.

The artwork has earned a Guinness World Record ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
