Johannesburg Launches Major Affordable Housing Project in Soweto
Story 1
The City of Johannesburg has officially launched the Orlando eKhaya and Power Park Housing Development in Soweto.
The project includes bonded homes, RDP units, and student housing — with 136 units already completed and occupied since December.
MMC for Economic Development, Nomoya Mnisi, says the project is a symbol of hope, aiming to deliver quality, affordable housing and tackle past inequalities.
Once complete, it will offer 2,800 units priced from R530,000 to R950,000.
It will also house over 2,000 students. Local councillor Cambridge Kwapeng says the development brings safety features, gyms, play areas, and a boost to the local economy.

Activist Gives Adults a Second Chance Through Night Schools
Story 2
Community activist Yumna Alexander is transforming lives in Cape Town by running 10 Hopeful Leaders Night Schools across several communities.
Having dropped out of school herself after falling pregnant, Yumna returned to complete her matric in her mid-20s and now helps over 600 adults who want to finish their schooling.
Her night schools offer affordable classes in subjects like maths, English, and life sciences, with fees reinvested to pay teachers and cover costs.
Many learners, like Natalie Muller and Waeeda Abrahams, have gone on to further studies and work, crediting Yumna’s support and encouragement.
Yumna’s work is helping tackle South Africa’s high dropout rate by giving adults a real chance to change their futures.

Two Decades of Hope: STEPS Transforms Lives of Children with Clubfoot
Story 3
Marking World Clubfoot Day this Tuesday, 3 June, STEPS Clubfoot Care celebrates 20 years of life-changing impact in South Africa.
Founded by Karen Moss after her son was diagnosed with clubfoot, the organisation has helped over 12,000 children walk pain-free using the Ponseti Method.
Clubfoot is a condition where a baby’s feet are twisted downward and inward, but with early treatment, it’s fully correctable.
From just a few clinics, STEPS now supports 48 nationwide and has trained more than 2,000 healthcare workers.
Thanks to early intervention, children like baby Tanashe from Mfuleni and Musa from the Eastern Cape are now thriving
