Gauteng Department announces dates for 2026 grade 1 and 8 online applications

The Gauteng department of education has officially announced the opening dates and process for the 2026 online admissions for grade 1 and grade 8 learners.
The online application system will run from the 24th of July to the 29th of August.

Education MEC Matome Chiloane, says since its launch in 2015, the online admissions system has streamlined the school application process for parents and guardians across Gauteng.

By eliminating long queues at schools and enabling remote applications, the system has achieved an impressive 98% placement rate for completed applications over the last ten years.
Parents can expect placement offers through SMSes from the 16th of October 2025.

Cape Town's crucial Central line reopens

Cape Town's central line from Chris Hani to Cape Town city has reopened following a 4 year shut down.
The reopening comes after extensive repair work on stations, substations and overhead traction electrification systems.

The line connects the communities of Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain to the Cape Town CBD and Bellville.

The transport minister Barbara Creecy, says the reopening of the rail line marks the return of dignity, mobility and hope for the working-class people of Cape Town.

BET awards to honour four legendary performers

To celebrate its awards turning 25 this year, American Television channel BET has selected four legendary performers, to receive a special recognition for their artistry and advocacy.

Singer-songwriter Mariah Carey, rapper Snoop Dogg, actor Jamie Foxx and gospel singer Kirk Franklin, are set to receive the Ultimate Icon Award at the ceremony, which will take place next month.
The TV channel founded the awards ceremony in 2001.

The BET Ultimate Icon Award aims to celebrate decades of groundbreaking contributions to music, entertainment, advocacy and community impact.
