Gauteng Health launches cataract surgery marathon in Tsakane
Story 1
The Gauteng health department has launched a cataract surgery marathon in Tsakane to restore sight to hundreds of patients and tackle the eye care backlog.
More than 160 patients began the process on Thursday with pre-screening, where doctors assessed their eyes and prepared them for surgery.
The surgeries will help elderly patients and people living with diabetes regain vision, reducing the number of people waiting for treatment.
Pholosong Hospital Acting CEO, Dr Trudy Tsumele, says the surgeries are giving patients a chance to see clearly again and improve their daily lives.

The City of Johannesburg hosted educational tours at the Roodepoort Museum for Grade R learners from Magic Faith Kids’ Club, Injabulo Thabo Day Care, and Pre-Primary School.
The children explored showcases on life before the discovery of gold, toured an old farmhouse with ox wagons and lanterns, and learned how candles were made at home.
They completed creative activities and a supplementary booklet, Roodepoort Rocks, and participated in sports to stay active.
The programme introduced young learners to local history, supported early childhood development, and encouraged curiosity about the city’s transformation from a farming town to the “City of Gold.”
