Gauteng Health launches cataract surgery marathon in Tsakane
Story 1
The Gauteng health department has launched a cataract surgery marathon in Tsakane to restore sight to hundreds of patients and tackle the eye care backlog.
More than 160 patients began the process on Thursday with pre-screening, where doctors assessed their eyes and prepared them for surgery.
The surgeries will help elderly patients and people living with diabetes regain vision, reducing the number of people waiting for treatment.
Pholosong Hospital Acting CEO, Dr Trudy Tsumele, says the surgeries are giving patients a chance to see clearly again and improve their daily lives.
