Glass Safari 2026 brings international glass artists to Pretoria

Glass Safari 2026 will bring together local and international glass artists at Tshwane University of Technology from 8 to 25 July.
The biennial programme includes workshops, live demonstrations, studio collaborations and exhibitions involving students, educators and industry professionals.
Artists from countries including the UK, US, Australia and Belgium will work alongside South African students and studios to share skills, techniques and creative approaches in glassmaking.
It focuses on strengthening Southern Africa’s glass art sector through training, innovation and international exchange opportunities.

Vega School students win 20 awards at Africa International Design Awards

Students from four Vega School campuses at Emeris have won 20 awards and seven honourable mentions at the Africa International Design Awards.
The competition recognises designers from across Africa and beyond, judged by industry experts and educators.
Among the winners is Nandipha Matyumza, whose crochet-inspired magazine YARNE won in the Book and Magazine category.
Waseela Khan was also recognised for Shoreline, a custom typeface inspired by her mother’s love for the ocean.
Other students and a lecturer also received awards across communication and interior design categories.

Kloof SPCA Dog Box Challenge raises over R364,000 for animals in need

Animal lovers in Kloof, KwaZulu-Natal, have raised more than R364,000 for the Kloof and Highway SPCA through the annual Dog Box Challenge 2026.
Participants spent a night inside dog kennels in their pyjamas, enduring the winter cold while raising a minimum of R10,000 in “bail” money each to secure their release.
The challenge aimed to raise funds for the SPCA while also giving participants a glimpse into the conditions faced by shelter animals.
The organisation says the funds will go towards veterinary care, food, and the running of the facility, helping to support rescued animals in need.
