Desi Koolen Wins Six World Medals

South African young performer Desmond “Desi” Koolen has won six medals and two division titles at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Las Vegas.
The Johannesburg performer represented South Africa from 13 to 21 July, competing in acting, singing and modelling categories in the 8–10 age group.
Koolen earned gold medals in swimwear modelling and spokesmodelling, silver medals in three acting categories, and a bronze medal for contemporary vocal performance.
His mother, Adele Koolen, said Desi prepared for the competition with vocal and drama coaching before facing performers from around the world.

It highlights the sacred mask tradition of the Yoruba, Somba and Beta-maribe communities.
Visitors from around the world welcomed the free festival saying it gives everyone the opportunity to experience Benin's traditions.
