Patients in Gauteng will benefit from improved brain and spinal care following the opening of a newly refurbished neurosurgical ward at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital.
The upgraded 27 bed ward includes six ICU beds and six high care beds for patients with brain and spinal injuries, brain tumours, hydrocephalus and other neurological conditions.
The refurbishment has improved patient safety, accessibility and the working environment for healthcare professionals.

Winter Wool Drive donations help keep families warm

The Boksburg Advertiser has donated knitted items, balls of wool, crochet hooks and knitting needles to Helpende Hand Solidariteit to help keep families warm this winter.
The donations were collected through the Winter Wool Drive and will be used to make and distribute blankets, scarves and other warm clothing to families in need.
The wool and knitting supplies will also help volunteers continue making these items throughout the winter, extending support to more people during the colder months.

Young South African performer Desmond Desi Koolen has returned from the World Championships of Performing Arts in Las Vegas with six medals and two division champion titles.
Competing in the eight to 10 age group, Desi won gold in Swimwear Modelling and Spokesmodelling, silver in three acting categories and bronze for Contemporary Vocal performance.
The rising star qualified to represent South Africa after excelling at the national championships and says the international competition gave him the chance to showcase his talent while learning from performers from around the world.
