Tshwane University of Technology and global tech leader Huawei have recently formalised and expanded their ongoing collaboration to support ICT students.
The renewed agreement includes R2 million in bursaries for top-performing students and further integration of Huawei technologies and training into TUT’s curriculum.
Since 2016, the partnership has helped over 1 000 students gain certification in areas like 5G, Cloud, Cybersecurity, and IoT.

Thousands of country music fans gathered in Nairobi on Saturday 27 July for International Cowboys and Cowgirls Day.
The annual festival highlighted Kenya’s growing country music scene, with performances, line dancing and cowboy-themed fashion.
Local artist Sir Elvis Otieno led the lineup, performing classics and newer hits that drew a strong response from the crowd.
Organisers say interest in country music is rising across Kenya, especially among farming and Christian communities.
They also noted similarities between country music and local storytelling styles like Mugithi.

A Langa-based small-scale farmer is turning hardship into opportunity by building a business around herbal teas and dried herbs.
Mzi Mashicila, who lost his job during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdowns, shared his journey during the 2025 Food Indaba in Cape Town, where he hosted a garden event called “Tea with a Farmer”.
Since joining his mother in a backyard garden, Mashicila has completed farming courses and joined support programmes to grow his skills and business.
He now produces and sells organic teas, with plans to expand into Cape Town’s health-conscious retail market.
While challenges remain, he says farming has brought purpose, healing and new hope.
