Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe has emphasised the importance of African countries developing their own mineral processing industries.
He warned against exporting raw materials to countries that impose high tariffs on finished goods.
Speaking at the ongoing G20 Critical Minerals Stakeholder Engagement in Johannesburg, Mantashe called for intention in realizing that Africa has the potential to play a pivotal role meeting the global demand for critical minerals on the just energy transition:
