Major League DJz partner with Shoprite to deliver back-to-school stationery to schools in Soweto

African dance music duo Major League DJz, have partnered with Shoprite through the Major League Continuity Fund to provide essential back-to-school stationery to Lejoeleputswa Primary School and Meadowlands Secondary School in Soweto.

The collaboration supports more than 1,500 learners, addressing a critical need in under-resourced educational environments.
A donation of essential supplies including crayons, pens, exercise books, highlighters, rulers and pencils was delivered to both schools on the 21st of January.

South Africa secures 51 major business event bids

The Tourism Minister Patricia Delille says South Africa has secured 51 major business event bids in the 2025/2026 financial year, generating over R894 million in economic impact.

Meetings Africa 2025 generated 690 million rand and supported 1,200 jobs, while Africa's Travel Indaba contributed over 610 million rand and supported more than 1,000 jobs.

Key upcoming events include a special World Economic Forum Summit in 2027, while the nation is actively bidding for the 2036 and 2040 Olympic Games.

Cape Flats Book Festival champions literacy in Mitchells Plain

The fifth annual Cape Flats Book Festival will take place at West End Primary School in Mitchell’s Plain from the 31st of January, hosted by literacy non-profit organisation Read to Rise.

The public event celebrates reading, writing and storytelling across generations with more than 90 speakers participating in over 50 sessions for children, young adults and adults.

Activities will include poetry readings, writing workshops, storytelling sessions, a puppet show, food stalls and exhibitors.

Entries are now open for the World Travel Awards 2026, with travel and tourism organisations worldwide invited to compete for the industry’s most prestigious honours.

This year’s awards cover the full spectrum of the travel and tourism sector, including aviation, destinations, hotels & resorts, tourist attractions, travel agencies and tour operators.

Entries from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, North America, and Oceania must be submitted by the 22nd of March, while organisations in the Middle East and Indian Ocean have until the 1st of February.

Organisation that demonstrating market-leading excellence are encouraged to participate.
