Kyalami hosts first-ever African European Fun Cup event

Motorsport history was made at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit as the European Fun Cup was staged for the first time on the African continent.

The 2026 season kicked off over a two-day event on the 16th and 17th of January, drawing an impressive 62-car entry at the iconic circuit.

The championship is regarded as one of Europe’s most entertaining endurance racing series, featuring close competition between amateur and semi-professional drivers racing identical cars.

Now in its 30th year, the Fun Cup has built a strong following across Europe, with races held in France, and the United Kingdom.
The Kyalami round marked a significant milestone for the championship, as it became the only event on the 2026 calendar to be staged outside Europe.

Pietermaritzburg businessman Con Malherbe will be the first cancer survivor to ride the Absa Cape Epic, one of the world’s toughest mountain bike stage races to raise R250 000 for Cansa.

Malherbe will be riding in support of CANSA Active which is a subsidiary of CANSA that encourages individuals to turn their passion for physical activity into meaningful fundraising opportunities.

The initiative invites participants to reach out to friends, family, colleagues and communities to contribute towards their chosen event and online fundraising project, helping CANSA continue its vital work in cancer prevention, care, support and advocacy.

His participation stands as a symbol of hope, proving that life after cancer can still be filled with ambition, achievement and impact.

Malherbe’s campaign has raised R11 000, with an additional R5 000 pledged.

Nominations for the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards were announced on Tuesday, celebrating the very best in film over the past year.

A total of 46 films received nominations with action-packed dark comedy "One Battle After Another" leading with 14 nominations.

Marty Supreme" secured 11 nominations in total, including recognition for Timothee Chalamet in the title role.

The annual film awards show which is hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts honours the best British and international film contributions and serve as a critical bridge between British and international cinema, highlighting artistic and technical excellence, while promoting films to a wider audience.

The BAFTA Film Awards will be handed out at a ceremony in London on the 22nd of February.
