Johannesburg will host the fourth edition of the SPAR International Netball Test Series this weekend, as the SPAR Proteas face England’s Vitality Roses at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena.

The three-match series kicks off South Africa’s 2026 season and serves as preparation for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this year.

The City of Joburg's Department of Community Development plays a key role in supporting women's sport and ensuring that girl children participate in sports.
South Africa and England which are ranked fifth and fourth in the world, will face off from the 29th of January to the 1st of February 2026.

Job market trends report shows positive outlook for 2026

The Head of Insights and Customer Success at Pnet, Paul Byrne says their latest Job Market Trends Report highlights that the 2025 hiring season ended on a positive note.

The months of September, October and November, each showed a progressive year-on-year increase with more jobs available.

The Pnet report looks beyond short-term hiring trends and focuses on long-term, stable opportunities.

While Entry-level and operational roles remain highly competitive, specialist skills in healthcare, finance, engineering and IT are in short supply and consistently in demand.

Byrne says job availability will continue on an upward trajectory in 2026.

Gauteng accelerates rollout of smart driver licence testing centres

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport is accelerating the rollout of Smart Driver Licence Testing Centres across the province.

Smart DLTCs are currently operational in Atteridgeville, Denlyn, Maponya Mall, Centurion, Protea Glen and Midrand, while the Umphakathi centre is expected to open in the near future.

The department’s spokesperson, Lesiba Mpya, says the smart centres bring efficient, ethical and modern licensing services directly to communities while supporting the department’s road safety objectives

China–SA partnership produces first cohort of skilled graduates

Thirty-six South African graduates were officially welcomed home on Monday during a ceremony led by Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister Nomusa Dube-Ncube at the Chinese Embassy in Pretoria.

The graduates recently completed a specialised training programme at the Beijing Polytechnic College in China and form part of the first group of graduates that have been produced through a partnership between the Chinese institution and nine South African Technical and Vocational Education and Training colleges, aimed at strengthening technical skills development.

Dube-Ncube has emphasized the importance of aligning international learning experiences with long-term national priorities.
