Field Band Foundation hosts annual Awards ceremony in Kempton Park

The Field Band Foundation celebrated its members for their achievements throughout 2025, while gearing up for new opportunities and success in 2026.

FBF hosted its Annual Concert and Awards Ceremony on the 16th of January in Kempton Park.

The special event brought together students from across all FBF projects and programmes, showcasing their musical talent, personal growth and the impactful work being done within communities.

Members participated in the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music programme across various grades.
Birchleigh Field Band member Lesedi Peete received a certificate for Grade 2 Music Theory and shared her pride in the achievement.

Field Band members and dancers took to the stage to showcase their talents, celebrating their journey with FBF while recognising areas for growth heading into 2026.

350 police officers honoured for outstanding performance and community Service

The acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia applauded the 350 top performering police officers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

The officials were given recognition at the SAPS's National Excellence Awards in Bloemfontein, which aims to recognise outstanding performance, exceptional commitment to community relations, innovation, professionalism and acts of bravery within the South African Police Service.

One of the awards recipients 41 year old Sergeant Masibulele Qinisile was awarded the Laureate Award and the National Commissioner's Award after heroically saving a mother and a child from a domestic violence incidence.

The Sergeant from the Cacadu police station in the Chris Hani District, in the Eastern Cape, walked away with a brand-new vehicle, making him a first-time car owner.

South Africa secures 51 major business event bids

The Tourism Minister Patricia Delille says South Africa has secured 51 major business event bids in the 2025/2026 financial year, generating over R894 million in economic impact.

Meetings Africa 2025 generated 690 million rand and supported 1,200 jobs, while Africa's Travel Indaba contributed over 610 million rand and supported more than 1,000 jobs.

Key upcoming events include a special World Economic Forum Summit in 2027, while the nation is actively bidding for the 2036 and 2040 Olympic Games.

Entries are now open for the World Travel Awards 2026, with travel and tourism organisations worldwide invited to compete for the industry’s most prestigious honours.

This year’s awards cover the full spectrum of the travel and tourism sector, including aviation, destinations, hotels & resorts, tourist attractions, travel agencies and tour operators.

Entries from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, North America, and Oceania must be submitted by the 22nd of March, while organisations in the Middle East and Indian Ocean have until the 1st of February.

Organisation that demonstrating market-leading excellence are encouraged to participate.
