SA Talent Takes Centre Stage
The Ndlovu Youth Choir has made its Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut, bringing the sound and spirit of South Africa to one of the world’s biggest arts festivals.With more than 4,200 shows from 74 countries, the Fringe is a global showcase of talent — and the choir from rural Limpopo is making sure South Africa is heard. Held across Edinburgh every August, the Festival Fringe is the world’s largest arts festival.The 2026 festival is, spread across nearly 300 venues, with more than 60,000 performances taking place throughout the month and over 2.5 million tickets sold.

Sky-High Fun Returns
The Rand Airport Airshow returns to Germiston today, promising a thrilling programme of aerobatics, historic aircraft and high-energy aerial performances.Highlights include the Puma Flying Lions, Master Power Extra 330s and the classic Beech 18, alongside static aircraft displays.Flight schools will also be on hand, showcasing training programmes and inspiring the next generation to explore careers in aviation.

Young Voices Against Racism
The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation has launched its 10th National Essay Writing Competition Against Racism. The 2026 theme, “365 Days of Justice: 10 Years of Youth Voices,” celebrates a decade of young people using writing to explore equality, inclusion and social justice.Young people aged 14 to 19 can choose a date from the foundation’s 2026 Racial Justice Calendar and explore its historical significance and relevance today, or write about one of its monthly themes. Entries can be submitted by email to essays@kathradafoundation.org.

Buñol Turns Red for La Tomatina
Thousands of people from around the world packed the Spanish town of Buñol (boonyol) for La Tomatina, the famous annual tomato-throwing festival. People pelted one another with tons of overripe tomatoes for more than an hour. The quirky tradition began with a spontaneous food fight in 1945 and, despite being banned in the 1950s, returned and grew into an internationally famous celebration.
