The City of Johannesburg has launched South Africa’s first Integrated Spatial Data Platform and Spatial Plan Management System, consolidating spatial data from all departments into a single, user-friendly digital platform.
The initiative enables advanced analysis, evidence-based planning, and real-time data sharing, enhancing transparency, accountability, and service delivery.
The city’s Virgil James says the platforms mark a major step in Johannesburg’s Smart City journey, fostering collaboration, citizen engagement, and efficient urban development:

The Tshwane University of Technology's Girls in Tech empowerment programme is transforming opportunities for young women in the information and communications technology sector.
The programme provides participants with mentorship, hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies, and networking opportunities with industry professionals.
It also focuses on developing essential soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, ensuring students are industry-ready.
According to Dr. Thembeka Manetje, the programme offers an inclusive platform for young women to learn, grow, and pursue success in technology with confidence.

Non-profit organisation Distance For Difference is hosting two-exciting fundraising events to mark 20-years of making a difference in the lives of children.
The first event is the GRATITUDE Run, taking place in Stellenbosch on Heritage Day, 24 September.
Later, in October, the organisation will host THE-500 24-Hour Cycling and Spinning Challenge in Somerset West, where cyclists will aim to cover 500 kilometres in 24 hours.
Over the past two decades, the organisation has raised over R13 million for more than 60 charities across South Africa.
