Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina has reaffirmed government’s commitment to restoring a reliable water supply, as Johannesburg unveiled the upgraded Brixton Reservoir and Water Tower.
The project forms part of efforts to stabilise supply across the city, particularly in areas linked to the Commando system.
The new infrastructure includes a 26 megalitre reservoir, water tower and upgraded pump capacity to improve storage and reduce outages.
Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero says the project marks a key step in strengthening the city’s water network and improving service delivery

South Africa has launched its first National Diabetes Dashboard to strengthen care for millions of patients living with the condition.
Developed by the National Health Laboratory Service with partners in Gauteng, the system provides near real time data on diabetes control across the country.
Health officials say it allows doctors and clinics to identify high risk patients earlier and respond faster, replacing slower monthly reporting.
The tool is also expected to improve monitoring and strengthen accountability in the public health system

Gauteng Boosts Autism Research with New African Neurodiversity Body

The Gauteng Department of Education has launched the African Neurodiversity Association and a new journal at the University of South Africa in Pretoria.
The initiative aims to strengthen autism research and support from an African perspective. Education MEC Lebogang Maile says it will help close gaps in local research and improve understanding of neurodiversity in communities.
The province also says thousands of parents and educators have been trained to better support autistic learners in schools.

Boston Marathon Runners Show True Sportsmanship in Final Stretch Rescue

A powerful moment of sportsmanship unfolded at the Boston Marathon when two runners stopped just metres from the finish line to help a competitor who had collapsed with severe leg cramps.
The athlete had fallen repeatedly in the final stretch on Boylston Street when the pair stepped in, lifted him between them and supported him to the finish.
Despite the impact on their own race times, both runners made sure he reached safety.
All three later received medical attention and have since recovered.
