Bishops Diocesan College learner Samuel Clarke has been named world champion at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships.
Clarke claimed the title in persuasive speaking after a standout performance on the impact of deepfakes on digital identity.
His four teammates also impressed, reaching semi-final and final rounds across various debating and speaking categories.
The learners returned from the competition in Bristol with strong results, including the world title, at an event that brought together top young speakers from around the world.

Jozi My Jozi is helping bring Johannesburg’s inner city back to life through coordinated infrastructure and safety upgrades.
CEO Innocent Mabusela says the organisation has already transformed parts of the Ellis Park precinct, installing more than 300 solar streetlights, while also repairing roads and improving walkways.
The initiative works with around 140 partners from business, civil society and education to deliver projects including public space upgrades, clean-ups and improved emergency response.
Mabusela says the focus is on visible action that restores functionality and pride in the city:

A new partnership between Nature Environment and Wildlife Filmmakers and climate finance specialists, ECo, will support 12 visual storytelling collectives from Africa and Ibero-America.
The funding, which is about 100-thousand-rand per project, will support work exploring themes such as memory, territory, time and ancestral knowledge.
Selected groups will also receive mentorship and take part in a residency at NEWF’s eKhaya centre in Sodwana Bay in KwaZulu-Natal.
The programme aims to support creative collaboration and reshape how communities tell their stories across continents.
