Sandton Fun Factory Wins US Financial Literacy Award

Sandton Fun Factory has won the Excellence in Financial Literacy Education Award from the Institute for Financial Literacy in the United States.
The programme, launched in 2023, trains early childhood development teachers to teach children aged three to six how to earn, save and budget.
In partnership with Discovery Bank, it has expanded to 600 centres across South Africa, reaching about 20,000 children.
The organisation is now training TVET students and plans to roll out the programme to more colleges and into Namibia later this year.

New accessible walkway improves access to Table Mountain summit

A new accessible walkway has been installed at the summit of Table Mountain to improve access for visitors with disabilities and mobility challenges.
The project aims to make movement around the summit easier for people who previously struggled to navigate the site.
The upgrade forms part of efforts to improve access to major tourist sites.
Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Managing Director Wahida Parker says this is a step towards making Table Mountain more inclusive:

Vezukukhanya Learners Get Uniforms and School Supplies

Learners at Vezukukhanya Primary School in KwaZulu-Natal received uniforms, shoes and learning materials through a donation from Blue Sky Society and the Zululand Conservation Trust.
The organisations provided 161 learners with school uniforms and shoes, distributed wildlife education booklets, and used recycled packaging for the items.
They also planted fruit and shade trees on the school grounds.
The project combined learning support and environmental action by supplying school resources and introducing tree planting at the school.

FIFA boosts World Cup payouts to R14.4 billion

World governing body FIFA has announced an increase in cash distributions to the 48 countries participating in this year’s World Cup – from just over 12-billion- to 14.4-billion-rand.
This comes after several FIFA members reportedly said the high cost of travel, tax and overall operations could lead to them losing money for their participation.
Each of the 48 teams will now receive 41.4-million-rand for preparation cost, while their qualifying bonus will now be increased to 165-million-rand each.
