Gauteng Selects 18 Future Doctors

The Gauteng Department of Health has selected 18 aspiring doctors to study medicine in Cuba under the Nelson Mandela Fidel Castro medical training programme.
They were selected from about 2,500 applicants across the province, following a screening process that included interviews and home visits.
The programme gives preference to students from lower-income families and disadvantaged schools.
The students will return to South Africa after their studies to complete clinical training and serve in the public healthcare system.
