Koekemoer Smashes 31 Year SA U20 Record

University of Johannesburg sprinter Leendert Koekemoer has delivered a major performance at the Grand Prix in Brescia, Italy, winning the men's Under 20 400m in a new South African record time of 44.52 seconds.
He broke the previous record of 45.15 seconds, which had stood for 31 years, by more than six tenths of a second and also recorded a new personal best.
The impressive time places Koekemoer among the world's leading young 400m runners as he prepares to take the next step towards senior international competition.
