Denmark to Remove Book Tax to Boost Reading
Story 3
Denmark is set to abolish its 25 percent value-added tax on books.
This is the highest book tax in the world and the move aims to encourage more people to read.
The government hopes the change will help tackle declining literacy rates among young Danes.
The policy is expected to cost around 330 million kroner a year but will be monitored to ensure the savings reach readers.
The initiative aligns Denmark with other European countries that already apply low or no taxes on books.
Schools and libraries will also benefit from increased funding to promote reading from an early age.
