Fynbos revival brings hope after Table Mountain fire
Story 2
Fresh signs of fynbos are emerging in the Silvermine Valley, where teams are working to restore biodiversity after April’s fire in Table Mountain National Park.
The blaze, which swept through 3,000 hectares, created a unique chance to remove millions of invasive Port Jackson seedlings before they grow too strong.
The Sugarbird Project, alongside SANParks, environmental teams and volunteers, has already cleared vast areas, allowing indigenous plants to take root again.
Organisers say community support is key, with volunteer days held every Saturday to help secure the future of the Cape Floral Kingdom.

York’s 250-year-old Holgate Windmill still grinds flour
Story 3
Holgate Windmill in York, England, continues to operate more than 250 years after it was built in 1770, making it Britain’s oldest working brick tower windmill.
Once surrounded by open countryside, the 27-meter-tall mill now stands in the middle of a housing development built after World War II.
After falling into disuse for 90 years, a preservation society restored the mill 13 years ago, and volunteers now run it, producing wholemeal flour sold in local shops.
It remains the only working five-sailed, double-shuttered windmill in England, keeping the historic craft of milling alive for future generations.
