UJ students shine at G20 Tourism Hackathon

The University of Johannesburg has claimed top honours at the first G20 Tourism Hackathon, with two of its student teams taking the top spots.
The Catalysts team walked away with first place and R175,000 for their Hologram Hub innovation, a platform that helps rural communities preserve and showcase their cultural heritage while boosting tourism.
Second place went to Map My Biz, which won R140,000 for a solution that combines offline learning with AI tools to support local entrepreneurs and increase their visibility to tourists.
UJ says the wins highlight its leadership in innovation, with both teams set to present their solutions to global tourism ministers at the G20 Summit in November.

Black Coffee to headline Africa Is Not a Jungle shows

DJ and producer Black Coffee will headline two Africa Is Not a Jungle events in Durban on 8 November and Johannesburg on 29 November.
The music movement, which showcases African talent and creativity, has grown into a cultural platform connecting audiences through music, culture and community.
This year’s editions will feature diverse African acts, top-tier production and collaborations, with the Johannesburg leg forming part of the Black Coffee Benefit Concert.
In partnership with the Black Coffee Foundation, R20 from every ticket sold will go towards education, arts and community development projects supporting under-resourced communities.

Artemis 2 astronauts ready for historic Moon mission

NASA’s Artemis 2 crew says they are fully prepared for their upcoming mission, which will send the first woman and the first Black man into lunar orbit.
Mission Commander Reid Wiseman described the 10-day flight around the Moon as a test mission, with the team ready for any scenario as they travel aboard the Orion spacecraft, now named Integrity.
The crew includes astronauts Christina Koch and Victor Glover from NASA, and first-timer Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency.
The mission will mark the farthest human journey into deep space, extending up to 9,000 miles beyond the Moon, and will pave the way for a future crewed lunar landing under the Artemis Program.
