National grid expansion remains on track

The Electricity and Energy Department and the National Treasury say the independent transmission projects programme remains on track to expand the national grid and attract private investment.
Pre-qualified bidders will be announced by 15 December, with final proposals expected next year.
Treasury, together with the World Bank, is also finalising a new credit guarantee vehicle to support infrastructure financing.
The government says aligning the projects will boost transparency and investor confidence in energy reforms.

Rea Vaya’s long-awaited phase 1C(a) has started operations from Saturday, introducing a dedicated bus rapid transit corridor between Alexandra, Sandton, and Johannesburg’s inner city.
For thousands of commuters, Rea Vaya’s phase 1C(a), which was launched at Marlboro Community Centre last month, promises safer, faster, and more affordable transport.
The new corridor introduces 141 low-entry buses and a key interchange at Pan Africa Mall, integrating Rea Vaya with other public transport.
MMC for Transport, Kenny Kunene, says the city will launch its new bus service with 68 reconfigured Gautrain buses on Louis Botha Avenue, connecting several areas, while waiting for the full fleet in 18 months
