Bedfordview learner shines at Harvard debating tournament

Grade 10 learner Ruby Banjac from Bedfordview has made her mark on the international debating stage after competing at the Harvard College World Schools Invitational in the United States.
She and her team reached the novice semi finals, finishing fourth in their division, while she also placed among the top 40 individual speakers in a highly competitive field.
Ruby says the experience strengthened her skills and deepened her passion for debating, following earlier international success and national recognition.
She is now preparing for another global debating event in Slovenia.

Nelson Mandela University walk supports students facing hunger

More than 200 staff and students at Nelson Mandela University took part in a 5 kilometre walk to raise awareness and support for students facing hunger.
The Mandela Walk for Student Hunger connected the South and North campuses and encouraged donations of food, toiletries and other essentials for students in need.
University leaders joined the initiative, which aims to support student wellbeing and access to basic needs that affect learning.
Ongoing donations will continue to assist students through the university’s support programme.

SA school choirs head to national SASCE finals in Pretoria

Finalists from all nine provinces will gather in Pretoria at the end of June for the ABC Motsepe SASCE National Championships, one of the country’s biggest school arts events.
The South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod will run from 30 June to 3 July at Moreleta Kerk, featuring top school choirs and young musicians who advanced through provincial rounds.
The programme, supported by the Department of Basic Education and the Motsepe Foundation, promotes music education and unity through performance.
Thousands of learners are expected to take part, showcasing the country’s young musical talent.
