Learners, parents and staff at St Dunstan's College in Benoni have braved icy 11 degree water for the school's fifth annual Headmaster's Polar Bear Challenge.
Around 200 people took part in the charity swim, with participants donating either R100 or a blanket to enter.
The proceeds will be distributed to local charities supporting vulnerable people during the winter months.
Organisers say the event is designed to bring the community together while raising awareness of the hardships many people face during the cold season.
The challenge has become an annual tradition, with many learners returning each year to support the cause.

The University of Pretoria has launched the Degrees Delivered campaign, a three year fundraising drive that aims to raise R50 million to help graduates whose qualifications are being withheld because of outstanding historical student debt.
The university plans to raise the money through donations from alumni, businesses, staff and the public, as well as fundraising events and a staff payroll giving initiative.
The funding will be used to settle qualifying graduates' debt, allowing them to receive their degree certificates and pursue employment, professional registration or further study.
