UP Launches Campaign to Help Graduates Access Their Degrees

The University of Pretoria has launched the Degrees Delivered campaign, a three year fundraising drive that aims to raise R50 million to help graduates whose qualifications are being withheld because of outstanding historical student debt.
The university plans to raise the money through donations from alumni, businesses, staff and the public, as well as fundraising events and a staff payroll giving initiative.
The funding will be used to settle qualifying graduates' debt, allowing them to receive their degree certificates and pursue employment, professional registration or further study.

Telkom Foundation Partnership Helps Young South Africans Into Jobs

More than 150 unemployed young South Africans have graduated from an ICT learnership funded through a partnership between the Telkom Foundation, Telkom Consumer and National Treasury.
The programme provides accredited training and workplace experience in fields including telecommunications, systems development and business analysis, helping young people prepare for careers in the digital economy.
Organisers say 22 graduates from the latest group have already secured jobs, two have continued their studies and one has started a business. More than 1 100 young people have completed the programme over the past five years.

Scout Builds New Cat Recovery Enclosure for Animal Shelter

A Johannesburg Scout has turned more than 50 hours of community service into a lasting gift for 4Paws Animal Shelter.
Christopher Isaacs built a new isolation enclosure where rescued cats can recover from illness before joining the shelter's healthy cats. The enclosure will help prevent the spread of disease and improve the care of vulnerable animals.
The project formed part of his Scouts Springbok Community Service Project and took 56 hours to complete, with the shelter saying it will make a lasting difference for the cats in its care.
