The Field Band Foundation has been inducted into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame, one of the highest honours in the global marching arts community.
The Woodmead-headquartered organisation was recognised for more than 25 years of developing young South Africans through music, performance and leadership programmes.
Based in the United States, the Hall of Fame acknowledges groups that advance excellence, community upliftment and international cultural exchange.
The award was formally accepted at a ceremony in the Pennsylvania.

Twelve Women to Run Across South Africa for Children’s Charity

Twelve South African women are gearing up for an extraordinary feat. Starting 25 February, they will run in relay from Musina Beitbridge to Cape Agulhas, covering 2,141 kilometres in just nine days.
The Cape2Care endurance challenge raises awareness and funds for Dynamic Women for Children, a non-profit that provides education, life skills, and counselling to vulnerable children. The women hope to set a world record while shining a light on children failed by circumstance and broken systems.

Government and private sector hand over Microsoft Digital Lab at Soweto school

The government, in partnership with Microsoft South Africa and other stakeholders, has opened a new Microsoft Digital Laboratory at Phefeni Secondary School in Soweto, aiming to help bridge the digital divide in public education.
The handover was attended by the Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube, the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, and the Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, alongside Microsoft leadership and school representatives.
Officials say the lab will give learners access to digital tools and training that can build skills needed in a technology-driven economy, helping them connect with learning resources and prepare for future opportunities

Bransholme Chat, based at the North Point Shopping Centre, has supported residents since 2019 by offering a free, warm space where people of all ages can connect, socialise, and take part in activities like games, crafts, and group sessions.
The new funding extends the project’s lifespan to nearly a decade, allowing organisers to keep providing friendship, support, and a safe place for those feeling isolated.
